Hey everyone and welcome to my first OwlCrate Unboxing post!

For those of you who don’t know what OwlCrate is, it is a monthly subscription box. Each one contains a hardcover Young Adult novel, some goodies from the author and a couple of bookish items, chosen around a specific theme in mind.

The theme of February box was ‘Hidden Worlds‘. So let’s explore what it had to offer:

  • First up is an adorable skeleton key pendant necklace in a cute, OwlCrate jewellery-like pouch. It was inspired by Coraline and created by Team OwlCrate.

  • Next up we have this massive, MASSIVE, wall tapestry. The quote says “Books fall open, you fall in” and it was exclusively designed by Evie Bookish. I must be honest, I don’t particularly like this item, it is far too big and impractical. Not to say that it is not a beautiful item but I simply cannot fit it on any of my walls, so I’m not really sure what to do with it. Even just taking the picture of it was problematic.

  • This handmade soy candle was inspired by Narnia. It was created by Books on Candles and it is pine, mint and vanilla scented, absolutely lovely smell, very refreshing.

  • The sticker has a picture of Alice and the White Rabbit from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and it was made by Naomi Lord.

  • The box also includes a zipper pouch, perfect for storing all your small bookish items in. The quote says “We dreamed together of the world remade” and it is printed on both sides. It is inspired by Daughter of Smoke and Bone and it was illustrated exclusively by Risa Rodil.

  • The book that is included in this month OwlCrate is The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert. This edition has a special OwlCrate exclusive cover and it also includes letter from the author and a sticker sheet. Oh and the book is also signed!

The novel tells a story of Alice Proserpine who spent most of her life on the road together with her mother. Alice’s grandmother, the author of pitch-dark fairy tales, dies alone on her estate, The Hazel Wood and Alice’s life goes from bad to worse. Her mother is stolen away by one of the characters from her grandmother’s stories. Alice teams up with with her classmates Ellery Flinch, who also happens to be a fairy-tale super-fan, who may have his own reasons to help her. Both venture into the Hazel Wood in hopes of saving Alice’s mother. It is a twisted and a beautiful story that explored the dark sides of fairy tales.

I have high expectations towards this novel, because I loved Caraval and its author, Stephanie Garber, is one of the people praising this book on the back cover.

So this is it for the OwlCrate February box, I hoped you enjoyed this post and I will see you for next unboxing for the March box, themed Across The Galaxy!
